LOFREE Flow 2: The Refined Low-Profile

LOFREE Flow 2: The Refined Low-Profile

Entering the Space

For keyboards in the ultra-slim, low-profile category, the competition is fierce. Entering the space with a convincing bid for the crown is Lofree’s new Flow 2 Keyboard. Following up on the widely successful original, the Flow 2 introduces a host of enthusiast-grade upgrades, transforming a minimalist concept into a high-performance typing machine. With a solid CNC-milled aluminum body, a sophisticated gasket-mount structure, and true tri-mode connectivity, this is the low-profile board refined.

Entering the Space

A Solid Foundation

From its solid build to its streamlined aesthetic, the Flow 2 pulls no punches. The chassis is crafted from a single block of CNC-machined aluminum alloy, finished with a 205-grit anodized zirconium sandblasting process for a smooth, premium feel. This unibody construction provides an incredibly solid, flex-free, and dent-resistant typing platform that stays put on your desk. It’s a substantial upgrade that you can feel with every keystroke.

Clean and Elegant

The design is clean and elegant, with the bright orange accents of the original replaced by a mature, monochrome look available in Silver or Space Gray. At the back, flip-out kickstands let you switch between a flat (0°) and angled (7°) typing position, giving you ergonomic flexibility without extra accessories.

Tuned Acoustics, Cushioned Feel

A 5-layer sound-dampening sandwich eliminates hollow case sounds for a refined typing experience.

A 5-layer sound-dampening sandwich eliminates hollow case sounds for a refined typing experience.

A great typing experience is about more than just looks. At its center, the Flow 2 features a thoughtfully designed gasket mount system supported by a specialized 5-layer sound-dampening sandwich. This internal combination—including a silicone dampening pad, IXPE switch foam, a PET dampening sheet, and PU foam—works to eliminate hollow case sounds. The result is a cushioned, refined typing feel with an exceptionally smooth and satisfying acoustic profile. On the right side, housed within the bezel, is a discreet black touch-sensitive bar. A simple swipe up or down adjusts volume or screen brightness (on Apple devices), putting essential controls right at your fingertips without clumsy function-key combos.

A Symphony of Layers

Kailh Void (Silent Linear)

Kailh Void (Silent Linear)

An ultra-quiet, cushioned linear press for environments where silence is key.

Kailh Pulse (Tactile)

Kailh Pulse (Tactile)

A satisfying tactile bump with a smooth sound for those who want to feel every actuation.

The Cloud Series Switches

Elsewhere under the hood, the Flow 2 showcases several high-quality components to deliver exceptional typing that earns its second-generation status. It uses three specialized, hot-swappable full-polyoxymethylene (POM) switches developed in collaboration with Kailh. Because they are self-lubricating, these "Cloud Series" switches only get smoother the more you type on them.

Brilliant Backlighting

The keycaps are made from durable double-shot PBT with translucent polycarbonate legends. Paired with a redesigned switch housing that features a 3.2x larger light-pipe, the north-facing white backlighting shines through with superb clarity, fixing the dim lighting of the previous generation.

Your Board, Your Rules

There’s nothing like the feel of a keyboard that works exactly how you want it to. But not everyone has the time to flash firmware or write code. That’s where VIA comes in. The Flow 2 is fully compatible with QMK/VIA software, giving you an intuitive, web-based interface to remap any key, create complex macros, and configure up to four distinct layers. You can set up dedicated layouts for macOS and Windows, or build custom layers for your favorite applications and games. The customization doesn’t stop at the software—hot-swappable sockets mean you can change out the low-profile switches any time without soldering.

Questions & Answers

Is the LOFREE Flow 2 compatible with Mac and Windows?

Yes, it is fully compatible with macOS, iPadOS, iOS, Windows, and Android. The box includes four extra keycaps so you can swap the Command/Option keys for Alt/Windows keys.

What does "hot-swappable" mean?

It means you can remove and replace the switches on the keyboard without needing to desolder them. This makes it easy to try out new switch types or replace a faulty switch. The Flow 2 supports low-profile mechanical switches.

How does the 2.4GHz connection work?

The keyboard comes with a small USB dongle. Plug it into your computer for a high-speed, low-latency wireless connection with a 1,000Hz polling rate, which is ideal for responsive typing and gaming.

Can I turn the backlighting off?

Yes. Turning the white backlighting off will significantly extend the battery life, from around 13 hours with lights on to 90 hours with lights off.
