FBB SKFL Retro Keycap Set: 145-Key Dye-Sub PBT for ANSI and ISO

Borrowed from the machines that started it all

Before keyboards were gaming peripherals they were office equipment, and the office equipment of the 1980s had a look: warm beige shells, cool grey modifiers, a single accent colour on the key that mattered, and legends set in a plain, confident typeface that was built to be read all day under fluorescent light. FBB's SKFL set brings that look back without the yellowing, the rattle or the 30-year-old plastic.

It comes in three colourways, Black, Beige and Grey, each one a complete 145-key kit, so the whole board changes character with one set rather than a base kit plus three add-ons.

Three ways to wear it

Beige

The classic. Cream alphas and darker modifiers in the colours of a vintage terminal, the one to pair with a beige or off-white case for the full period look, or with a dark case for contrast.

Grey

The same layout in cooler tones: light grey alphas with charcoal modifiers. It reads as retro at a glance and as modern on a silver or black aluminium board.

Black

The night-shift version. Black keys with light legends keep the vintage typeface and proportions but sit quietly on a dark desk, and the dye-sub legends stay legible where printed white would wear away.

Thick PBT that sounds the part

FBB moulds these at 1.7 mm, noticeably thicker than a standard keycap wall. Thick PBT does not flex or ring, so every keystroke lands with a dense, solid note that suits the retro theme: the keyboard sounds as substantial as it looks. The Cherry profile is low and sculpted, with each row angled towards your fingers, and it sits comfortably with most switch and case combinations.

The legends are dye-sublimated, which means the colour is dyed into the plastic rather than printed on the surface. Nothing wears off, and the matte PBT texture does not turn shiny on the keys you press most, so the set keeps its finish for years.

145 keys, ANSI and ISO covered

The kit includes the keys an ISO board needs alongside the full ANSI layout: the tall ISO Enter, the short left Shift and the extra key beside it. A UK or European keyboard is covered straight out of the box, and an ANSI board leaves those few keys in the bag. With 145 keys there are also spare and alternate caps for the common bottom-row and right-shift variations found on 65%, 75% and full-size boards.

Stems are standard MX cross mounts, so the set fits any mechanical keyboard with MX-style switches.

Q&A & Specifications

Questions & Answers

Will it fit my keyboard?

If your keyboard uses MX-style switches, yes. The set covers both ANSI and ISO layouts, including the ISO Enter and short left Shift. Check the kit image for the exact keys if your board has an unusual bottom row.

Which colourway should I pick?

Beige for a true vintage look, Grey if you want retro proportions on a modern-looking board, Black for a dark setup. All three share the same legends and layout.

Are the legends shine-through?

No. Dye-sub PBT is opaque, so backlighting glows around the keys rather than through the letters.

Will the legends fade?

No. Dye-sublimation puts the colour inside the plastic, so there is no printed layer to rub off.
