HMX x 80Retros Volume 0-T: Ultra Silent Tactile Switches

A tactile switch you can barely hear

The HMX Volume 0-T is a silent tactile mechanical keyboard switch made by HMX in collaboration with 80Retros. It is built for people who want a proper tactile bump without the sound that normally comes with it: in a quiet office, a shared flat, or a late-night session with someone asleep in the next room.

The switches are 5-pin, factory lubricated, and ready to drop straight into any hot-swap board with MX-style sockets.

How the Volume 0-T feels

Tactility

The bump sits right at the top of the press, starting around 0.1 mm in, and peaks at 53 gf. It is a clear, crisp step rather than a soft roll-over, and the switch springs back smoothly after each keystroke.

Sound

Close to zero noise. The only sound left is a faint bottom-out, so the keyboard stays quiet even at full typing speed.

Bottom-out

Firm rather than mushy. The silencing does not leave the bottom feeling spongy, so long typing sessions stay comfortable and your fingers are not working against padding.

Light to press, strong to feel

At 35 gf to actuate and 48 gf at the bottom, the Volume 0-T is a light switch with a strong bump. The 22 mm spring and the pre-set tactile event mean the feedback arrives early and clearly, then gets out of the way as you push through to the 3.7 mm bottom.

The stem is POM with TPE dampening, the top housing is PA12 and the bottom housing uses HMX's P4 blend. Everything comes lubricated from the factory, so there is nothing to do before you install them.

Q&A & Specifications

Questions & Answers

Will these fit my keyboard?

The Volume 0-T is a 5-pin MX-style switch. It fits any hot-swap keyboard with 5-pin sockets, and 3-pin boards if you clip the two plastic legs. It also works on a standard MX-compatible PCB if you solder.

Do I need to lube them?

No. They come lubricated from the factory and are meant to be used as they arrive.

How quiet is "ultra silent"?

HMX describes the sound as close to zero, with a faint bottom-out being the only thing you hear. In practice the loudest part of typing becomes your keycaps and the desk, not the switches.

Is the bump light or heavy?

Strong. The tactile peak is 53 gf against a 35 gf actuation force, which gives a noticeable step without making the switch heavy to type on.
