Keychron K4 QMK Wireless Mechanical Keyboard (Version 3)

Keychron K4 QMK Wireless Mechanical Keyboard (Version 3)

Compact 96% Layout, Complete Functionality

A full numpad is non-negotiable for work. A compact keyboard is essential for a clean desk. For years, you had to choose. The Keychron K4 changes that. This version takes the popular 96% layout—which keeps the numpad and essential keys in a space-saving frame—and introduces a host of enthusiast-level upgrades. With QMK/VIA support for complete customization and a redesigned acoustic system, the K4 Version 3 is a workhorse built for a refined typing experience.

It's an excellent tool for anyone who needs the utility of a full-size board without sacrificing their entire desktop.

A Difference You Can Hear

To truly understand the benefits of a modern mechanical keyboard, you have to hear it. The first thing you'll notice about the K4 V3 is its solid, satisfying sound. As opposed to older designs that can produce a hollow echo, this re-engineered board features a comprehensive acoustic array designed to dampen unwanted noise and enrich every keystroke. At its core, it houses several layers of sound-absorbing material—including an IXPE switch pad, PET film, EPDM case foam, and a silicone bottom pad—to deliver a deeper, more pleasing sound on every actuation.

Programmed for Your Workflow

Working in harmony with each of the K4's connectivity modes, QMK and VIA firmware gives you the power to personalize with precision. Remap keys, create complex macros for your most-used applications, and control the backlighting with ease. All of this can be done through the intuitive, browser-based Keychron Launcher web app, which saves your layout directly to the keyboard's memory. Your custom layout goes wherever the keyboard goes, on any operating system, without needing to install any software.

The customization doesn't stop at the firmware. The hot-swappable PCBA means you can change the entire feel of your board in minutes. Simply pop in new switches to try a different profile—no soldering required.

QMK Customization

Wired Precision, Wireless Freedom

The K4 connects with up to three devices at once via its stable Broadcom Bluetooth 5.2 chipset. Switch between your laptop, tablet, and phone with a simple key combination. It's a seamless way to maintain a multi-device workflow. For competitive gaming or tasks that demand zero latency, the 1,000 Hz polling rate over a wired USB-C connection ensures every command registers the instant you press a key. A 4,000 mAh battery provides up to 190 hours of wireless use, keeping you focused on the task at hand, not on the next recharge.

Built for a Better Feel

Switches and Keycaps

Hot-Swappable Switches. The board comes equipped with pre-lubed Keychron Super Switches in your choice of Linear Red, Tactile Brown, or the distinctively sharp Banana tactile profile. The hot-swap sockets are compatible with nearly all 3-pin and 5-pin MX-style switches on the market.

Double-Shot PBT Keycaps. Topping the switches are durable, oil-resistant PBT keycaps. Made using a double-shot process, the shine-through legends will never fade or wear away. Each cap is shaped in the popular Cherry profile, offering a comfortable and familiar typing angle.

Compatibility and Lighting

Mac & Windows Ready. The K4 is one of the few mechanical keyboards with macOS media keys in a Mac layout. It ships with keycaps for both macOS and Windows, so you can switch between operating systems without missing a beat.

Vibrant RGB Lighting. The RGB version comes with more than 22 backlight settings. You can fine-tune the hue, saturation, brightness, and effect speed to perfectly match the rest of your setup.

Q&A

What are QMK and VIA?

QMK is a powerful, open-source firmware that allows for deep customization of a keyboard's functions. VIA is a user-friendly application that works with QMK to let you remap keys, create macros, and adjust settings in real-time without needing to re-flash the keyboard's firmware.

What does "hot-swappable" mean?

A hot-swappable keyboard has sockets on its printed circuit board (PCB) that allow you to install and remove mechanical switches without any soldering. This makes it easy to try out different types of switches or replace a faulty one.

Is the aluminum frame version fully aluminum?

The aluminum frame option adds a sturdy metal frame to the exterior of the ABS plastic case. This increases the weight and rigidity of the keyboard for a more premium feel, but the main body of the case is still ABS plastic.

What's in the box?

The package includes the Keychron K4 QMK Keyboard, a USB-A to USB-C cable, a keycap puller, a switch puller (for the hot-swappable version), and extra keycaps for the Windows layout.
