Keychron K4 Max: Full-Size Power in a Compact Form

Keychron K4 Max: Full-Size Power in a Compact Form

96% Layout: Full Functionality, Minimal Footprint

For many workflows, a number pad isn't a luxury—it's essential. But for desks where every inch counts, a traditional full-size keyboard is often too much. Entering the space with a smarter solution is Keychron's K4 Max Wireless Mechanical Keyboard. It delivers the full-size functionality you need, including a complete number pad, in a compact 96% layout that respects your desk space.

At its core is a multi-layer acoustic design built to refine every keystroke. The keyboard incorporates a six-layer filling structure to minimise unwanted noise and shape the typing sound. This includes IXPE acoustic foam, a PET film, and resilient EPDM foam for sound dampening. Complementing the foam array is a steel plate, which provides responsive feedback and adds a satisfying weight for enhanced stability during intense work or gaming sessions.

Performance Without Compromise

We covered the acoustics. Now, for the performance. The K4 Max gives you three ways to connect: stable 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.1 for up to three devices, and a classic wired USB-C connection. For competitive gaming and latency-sensitive work, both the 2.4 GHz and wired modes deliver a 1000 Hz polling rate, ensuring your inputs are registered instantly. The 4000mAh battery provides up to 190 hours of use with the backlighting off, keeping you focused on the task, not the charge level.

Make It Your Own with QMK & VIA

Working in harmony with each of the K4 Max's connectivity modes, QMK firmware gives you the power to personalise with precision. Remap keys, create complex macros, control the 22+ RGB lighting effects, and much, much more. Even better: do it all through the user-friendly Keychron Launcher web app, which makes it easier than ever to unlock the full potential of QMK and VIA. The customisation doesn't stop at the software. The board features hot-swappable sockets, allowing you to change your mechanical switches without any soldering. You build your workflow a certain way—why should your keyboard be any different?

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main benefit of a 96% layout?

The 96% layout provides nearly all the keys of a full-size keyboard, including the number pad, in a much smaller footprint. It achieves this by eliminating most of the empty space between key clusters, making it ideal for users who need full functionality but have limited desk space.

What is QMK/VIA?

QMK is a powerful open-source firmware that allows for deep customisation of a keyboard's functions. VIA is a graphical user interface that makes it easy to program a QMK-enabled keyboard without needing to write code. You can remap any key, create macros, and adjust lighting all through a simple app.

What does "hot-swappable" mean?

A hot-swappable keyboard has sockets on its circuit board that allow you to pull out and plug in new switches without any soldering. This makes it easy to try different switch types (linear, tactile, clicky) or replace a faulty switch.

Why is a 1000 Hz polling rate important?

Polling rate measures how often the keyboard reports inputs to the computer. A 1000 Hz polling rate means it reports 1,000 times per second (every 1 millisecond). This is especially important for fast-paced gaming where instant response is critical.
