Qwertykeys QK80 Mk2 Keyboard Kit

Qwertykeys QK80 Mk2 Keyboard Kit

Redefining the TKL Experience

For tenkeyless (TKL) keyboards, the challenge isn't just about features—it's about the entire experience, from unboxing to the final keystroke. Entering the space with a new focus on refinement is the Qwertykeys QK80 Mk2.

There's nothing like the feel of a perfectly tuned custom keyboard. Every desk deserves one—but not everybody has the time or patience for a complicated, tool-heavy assembly. That's where the QK80 Mk2 changes the conversation. It was designed to remove the friction between you and a great typing experience, starting with a build process that is genuinely effortless.

QK80 Mk2 Design

A Build Without Barriers

The idea behind the QK80 Mk2 was to combine enthusiast-level components with an assembly process that anyone can enjoy. The case opens tool-free with a satisfying and secure ball-catch mechanism. Inside, the PCB, daughterboard, and screen module snap together with magnetic connectors. No tiny wires, no frustrating alignment, and no searching for the right screwdriver. Just a simple, satisfying assembly that gets you typing faster.

At its center is the first leaf spring mount in the QK series. This system uses finely-tuned leaf springs to create a bouncier, more flexible typing feel than traditional mounts. Qwertykeys increased the stiffness slightly from their other leaf-spring boards, delivering consistent feedback that feels responsive without being overly soft. Complementing this design is a refined acoustic chamber where the dual 4000 mAh batteries are isolated from the case, preserving the integrity of the sound profile for cleaner, more consistent acoustics.

Leaf Spring Mount

More Than a Keystroke Counter

Seamlessly integrated into the function row is an upgraded TFT LCD display and dot-matrix LED panel. It's more than just a novelty. The screen shows you the time, date, and connectivity status at a glance. Choose from three built-in themes—Dynamic, Meow, or Code—or customize your own animations with QK's dedicated VIA software. It even includes a built-in "Flappy Bird" clone for when you need a quick break between tasks.

Limited Edition: Ready From the Start

For those who want a complete, curated package right out of the box, Qwertykeys has created a limited pre-assembled edition. With an exclusive themed color scheme, pre-installed Azure Linear switches, and glossy JTK HSA keycaps—all designed to work in perfect harmony—this board is ready to go the moment it hits your desk. It features a unique WK layout and includes a color-matched coiled USB-C cable to complete the look.

The Azure Linear switches, made by HMX, provide a light 45gf bottom-out force and a consistently smooth, clacky sound profile. They are paired with JTK's HSA profile keycaps, which offer a comfortable sculpted, spherical shape in a unique glossy finish that feels great and resists the shine that typically develops on matte ABS.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the PCB options?

There are three tri-mode, hotswap PCB options. The 1.2mm flex-cut PCB with per-key RGB offers the most lighting customization. The 1.2mm flex-cut PCB without RGB provides significantly better battery life in wireless modes. The 1.6mm non-flex cut PCB is stiffer, resulting in a brighter sound profile and a less flexible typing experience.

Is this keyboard easy to build for a beginner?

Absolutely. The ball-catch mechanism and magnetic connectors make the QK80 Mk2 one of the most straightforward custom keyboard kits to assemble. The process is tool-free and intuitive.

How do I customize the screen?

The screen's advanced functions are customized using QK's web-based VIA configurator. The standard VIA app does not support the screen, so be sure to use the version provided by Qwertykeys.

What comes in the standard kit?

The standard kit includes the CNC aluminum case, your choice of PCB and plate, a full foam set (including a new PET layer), a 2.4G wireless dongle, and all the necessary accessories like gaskets, screws, and a USB-C cable. Qwertykeys also often includes free gifts like stabilizers and a keyboard carrying case.
